The years have gone so fast it seems,
My young father no longer you are, for sure.
Your dear face although tinged with tired lines,
Your golden smile and twinkling eyes are as they always were.
Throughout the childhood of my days, I remember;
A face so dear, a heart so full of love.
A voice so tender, a hand so gentle,
For all of which, I thank the Lord above.
A difficult, a troublesome child, I have been,
Other fathers would have exclaimed, "To me this child does not belong,"
"Hopeless, impossible, untrainable this girl is certainly."
But, in your loving eyes, it seemed that I could be no wrong.
Leading me guiding me so patiently,
Always so full of hopeful and encouraging words,
Not harsh, nor bitter when you spoke,
Such angry words, never have I ever heard.
The best father you have been by far,
Your love and thought of each day every year,
So daddy one last word I'd like to say,
Happy Birthday to the father who's so very dear.
